Cleveland Landmark #30
Monroe Street Cemetery was given landmark status by the Cleveland Landmarks Commission in 1973. The city never erected a plaque at the cemetery to identify this status. The plaques are available through the Landmarks Commission but must be purchased by the owner of the building or property that was given landmark status.
Since the city never got around to getting a plaque for Monroe, the Monroe Street Cemetery Foundation ordered and paid for the plaque in 2009. The tragedy with the gatehouse has prohibited us from installing the plaque but once the decisions to restore the gatehouse in made the plaque will find its new home somewhere on that building.
The bronze plaque is 7 ½” wide and 9” tall and weighs several pounds.
