Monroe Street Cemetery

Monroe Street Cemetery Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, all-volunteer organization dedicated to the preservation and enhancement of the oldest public cemetery on Cleveland's west side.

Foundation Activities in 2024

  1. Coffee & Coffins Classic Hearse Cruise-in
  2. Filling sink-holes in the cemetery
  3. Participated in GardenWalk Cleveland
  4. Voices From The Past - Cleveland History Days Event
  5. Decorated veteran graves with flags for Memorial Day
  6. Planting gardens
  7. Tree clean-up and weed removal
  8. Regrow Monroe Fundraiser

Foundation Activities in 2023

  1. Stories from Beyond the Grave Fundraiser
  2. Planted 34 trees
  3. Participated in GardenWalk Cleveland
  4. Tree clean-up and weed removal
  5. Uncovered hidden graves
  6. Decorated veteran graves with flags for Memorial Day

Foundation Activities in 2022

  1. Accredited arboretum
  2. Planted over a dozen new trees in 2022
  3. Genealogy and history research, including uncovering burial records prior 1863
  4. Planted flowers to further beautify the Cemetery
  5. Wrote new books about Cemetery stories: The Martha Washington Case and Ripped from the Headlines
  6. Event programming to make the Cemetery a neighborhood amenity, such as the Ghost Tour, Tree Wedding and Regrow Monroe Fundraiser
  7. Coordinated repairs and maintenance to the wrought iron fencing, gatehouse, mausoleums, and monument restoration
  8. Decorated veteran graves with flags for Memorial Day and Veterans Day
  9. Coordinated maintenance of existing trees
  10. Educational initiatives and community engagement
